Senator Harkin Introduces Keeping All Students Safe Act

WASHINGTON – The National Disability Rights Network (NDRN) applauds the introduction of legislation that addresses the use of restraint and seclusion on children in schools. A different version of the legislation passed in the House of Representatives last year but was unable to clear the Senate. Senator Harkin (D-IA) introduced this version - the Keeping All Students Safe Act (S.2020) - on December 16, 2011.


NDRN Report Calls for More Monitoring of People with Disabilities Transitioning out of Institutions

WASHINGTON – The National Disability Rights Network (NDRN) today released the report Keeping the Promise: True Community Integration and the Need for Monitoring and Advocacy. The report summarizes two projects that monitored people with disabilities, many of whom were moving out of large institutions into homes in the community.


Michael Bailey Elected NDRN Board President

WASHINGTON – The membership of the National Disability Rights Network (NDRN) has elected Michael Bailey of Oregon as its new President.  Mr. Bailey has a long history of service to NDRN and the nationwide network of Protection and Advocacy (P&A) agencies that make up the organization’s membership. Most recently Mr. Bailey served as Vice President of the Board of NDRN and was past Chair of the Program Advisory Committee and the Finance Committee.  He also serves on the Standards Committee and the Executive Committee.

Supreme Court Vindicates Network’s Right to Investigate Abuse and Neglect

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected the attempts of state officials in Indiana to limit the ability of protection and advocacy agencies to enforce their investigative authority today.  In Indiana Protection and Advocacy Services (IPAS) v. Indiana Family and Social Services Administration the Supreme Court declined to hear a case in which state officials alleged that IPAS did not have the power to file lawsuits to enforce its authority.
