Consumer/Family
Network Coordinator; Statewide Mental Health
Training
and Technical Assistance Center
REPORTS TO:
Executive Director, NAMI Texas
BASIC FUNCTION: Works collaboratively to support the development of a statewide mental health training and technical assistance center, through assisting in
· coordinating needs assessments
· soliciting consumer and family input
· building a consumer and family network
· supporting consumer and family education, and
· integrating consumers and family members in mental health transformation processes
MAJOR
RESPONSIBILITIES:
3. Assist in facilitating monthly collaborative meetings of state-level mental health advocacy organizations to develop a network of individual with mental illness and family members who will be responsible for developing the networks vision, plan of action, membership guidelines, structure and priorities.
4. Assist in the review of national peer certification systems.
5. Participate in local, state and national meetings and forums to represent the consumer and family member perspectives related to establishing a transformed mental health system that is consumer and family-driven.
6. Maintain current knowledge of national and state initiatives related to consumer and family member issues, participation and leadership.
7. Plan and facilitate meetings and events related to mental health transformation and network development.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Responsibility: None
Knowledge and Experience:
Consumers and Family Members with the “lived” experience of mental illness
are strongly encouraged to apply.
1. Requires a bachelor’s degree in mental health, public policy, or other relevant discipline, and at least three years experience in mental health consumer organization leadership or advocacy roles. Experience in areas related to job responsibilities can compensate for educational qualifications.
2. Familiarity with key policy issues and priorities related to mental health services, structure and mental health transformation initiatives in Texas.
3. Knowledge of consumer and family member organizations in the state of Texas and their mission and goals.
4. Experience in coordinating and building consensus, working with consumer and family member organizations, interfacing with diverse stakeholder groups including providers, administrators and policy makers.
Skills and Abilities:
1. Excellent written and oral skills required.
2. Ability to handle conflicts and challenging situations diplomatically.
3. Ability to engage, lead and develop consensus among broad, diverse groups.
4. Ability to prepare concept papers, presentations, reports and plans related to consumer- and family-driven systems, recovery, resilience, consumer and family member education, etc.
5. Ability to use judgment and discretion in ensuring that information and materials developed are well researched and balanced.
6. Ability to work effectively in a team-focused environment, as well as being a strong, individual contributor with a strong work ethic.
7. Ability to manage conflicting priorities and manage tight deadlines.
8. Skill and experience with software such as Windows 2000, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
