EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

 

Disability Rights Mississippi

 

Disability Rights Mississippi, a nonprofit legal advocacy organization based in Jackson, MS, is the federally-designated protection and advocacy system for Mississippi.  The program is seeking an experienced, talented individual to serve as Executive Director.  The Executive Director will work closely with a team of committed professionals to provide leadership for the organization. 

 

Disability Rights Mississippi has an annual budget of approximately $2.5 Million, and a staff of twenty eight, including two attorneys.  The main office is located in Jackson, MS, with a branch office located on the gulf coast.  The organization advocates on behalf of citizens with disabilities over a wide range of issues, from special education to housing to prevention and neglect.  Disability Rights Mississippi also works with coalitions to help all citizens with disabilities within Mississippi gain access to a life in the community.

 

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall mission of the program, including all aspects of programmatic and financial management.  In addition, the Executive Director serves as the primary spokesperson for the organization and guides strategic planning and public policy development. 

 

Qualifications:

 

·        Experience in nonprofit supervision and leadership

·        Experience with grants and fiscal management

·        Background in disability services  

·        Interest in providing advocacy supports and services for individuals with disabilities

·        Background with legislative and public policy advocacy

·        Commitment to coalition building
