(Phoenix, Ariz.) - The Arizona Center for Disability Law (Center) welcomes Gulf Coast evacuees to Arizona. The Center stands ready to provide legal services to Gulf Coast residents who require assistance with disability-related issues in Arizona such as access to health care and mental health care services, assistive technology, special education, employment, fair housing, public access and accommodations.

Individuals with disabilities were among the hardest hit groups by Hurricane Katrina. Many people with disabilities were not able to evacuate their communities in advance of the storm due to serious health conditions, lack of transportation, or inadequate emergency evacuation plans.

Arizona evacuees who need legal advice or information on a variety of disability-related issues are encouraged to contact the Center toll-free at 1-800-927-2260 or in Phoenix at (602) 274-6287. Information about our programs is being distributed to evacuees through legal services information booths at designated Red Cross shelters in Phoenix and Tucson. Volunteer lawyers operating out of designated Red Cross shelters are referring evacuees to the Center for disability-related legal services.

Arizona evacuees who require assistance other than legal services can visit our website for links to
    Arizona-based disability service organizations.
