Annual "Abilities Expo" to Feature Four Presentations from NJP&A
Trenton, NJ -- People with disabilities in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania will have the opportunity to attend four presentations by New Jersey Protection & Advocacy (NJP&A) staff members as part of the annual Abilities Expo on March 28-30, 2008, at the New Jersey Convention & Exposition Center in Edison, New Jersey.
On Friday, March 28 th, at 2:30 pm, Curtis D. Edmonds will present on "Assistive Technology in the Transition Planning Process." On Saturday, March 29 th, at 10:30 am, Jamie Arasz Prioli will present on, "An Accessible Home for All Ages," and at 11 am, Mary Ciccone will present on, "Voting Rights of Individuals with Disabilities." At 12:30 pm on Saturday, NJP&A will host a panel discussion on, "Emergency Preparedness For People With Disabilities."
The Abilities Expo, of which NJP&A is a sponsor, is a consumer show for independent and assisted living products and services that is open to the public. In addition to educational workshops and seminars, the Expo features an extensive exhibit for vendors of a variety of products and services designed to enhance the independence of people with disabilities. NJP&A's Assistive Technology Advocacy Center (ATAC) will have a booth in the exhibit hall, distributing information about assistive technology and how people with disabilities can access assistive technology devices and services that can enable individuals with a disability to participate more fully in their communities, including their work, home, school, and their environments. The Abilities Expo also features a number of speakers on topics related to disability and technology issues.
"The Abilities Expo is an important way to help get the word out about how assistive technology can help people with disabilities," said Curtis D. Edmonds, ATAC program manager. "We're pleased that NJP&A can be a part of this event, and excited about being able to present on so many different issues."
